A new beginning

Long time no see. It’s been a while since my last blog post. Not that I blog too much anyway, but from time to time I like to publish what I’m doing in order to have some kind of personal record of my activities. Though this blog doesn’t reflect it, 2014 has been a very challenging year on both personal and professional levels. For one, I’ve finished my licentiate degree.

On a more technical level, during the last year I’ve been doing too much system administration and too little programming. I very much enjoy both activities, so this year I’ll try to find a balance. I’ve already made some progress on this front by writing my first application of the year, this website, deprecating my old (but loved) Ikiwiki instance in place for this shiny new site written using Hakyll library. Hakyll is indeed very flexible. For example, with 6 lines of Haskell code I was able to generate one RSS feed per tag, which is very useful when you want to aggregate only some of your blog posts to, say, planets. The source code will soon be uploaded to my git repos.

On the Debian front I’ve been relatively active, though not as much as I would have liked. I’ve packaged a few things along with the Debian Haskell Group, sent a couple of patches and done some local activism, but I think the biggest achievement is the ongoing inclusion of Bro in the archive with the help of Hilko and Lisandro. The packaging of the core software is finished and patiently waiting its upload to the repo. Others satellite-projects, as broctl and broccolli, will be uploaded soon.

That’s all for now. Hopefully more coming soon!
